I have to tell you about something amazing I had the privilege of doing this year. I finally got to experience The Unraveled Academy Retreat in Utah. I’ve been a part of the academy since it first started around 5 years ago and when they started doing the retreat I eagerly awaited until I could one day have the chance to go and experience it. Back in 2019 I won a seat for the 2020 retreat from a giveaway the academy was hosting, but we all know how 2020 went, the world shut down and the retreat was cancelled. Then in 2021 the amazing Unraveled team offered me a seat once again but unfortunately with all the travel restrictions that were in place, I wasn’t able to go and so I gave my seat up for another amazing artist to have the opportunity. When a majority of the travel requirements and restrictions were lifted this year, I immediately jumped on the Unraveled website and grabbed myself a ticket before they sold out.

Now, maybe you’re not in the know and aren’t aware of The Unraveled Academy, well let me tell you, it’s one of the most amazing communities and learning platforms there is if you’re a photographer. Now, back to the retreat!!

It was freakin’ amazing. And also, the first time ever that I’ve travelled out of Canada on my own. The colours in the mountains of Utah, holy wow! So beautiful in the fall. I finally had the chance to meet a whole bunch of people that I’ve known only online for so many years and it was so nice to be around them all face to face and in their wonderful energy. I thought for sure I would get overwhelmed easily with so many new faces to meet, but everyone that attended the retreat was so welcoming, sweet and chill that it wasn’t overwhelming at all.

We jumped right into shooting a sweet young couple on our first evening after we did some introductions and mingling. This will be the first of 4 blog posts I will share from all the amazing sessions we had the opportunity of photographing. This session was lead by the amazing Heather Nan, she first talked to us all for a bit about photography, how she got started and even taught us all about the art of competitive miming. After her presentation we met this lovely young couple and made our way up the mountain side where we watched, learned and then had the opportunity to capture these two and their love.
