Crystal | Austin, Texas | Downtown Austin Portrait Session

I am terrible about keeping up with blogging. I have so many posts to catch up on.

It’s cold and snowy here today so what better photos to share than a beautiful sunny hot day from Texas back from April of 2024.

My friend Candace and I spent a few days before and after the Unraveled Academy Summer Camp to explore Austin and one of those evenings we met up with her friend Crystal and she so graciously modeled for us while we snapped photos around downtown Austin.

There were so many beautiful little spots that we found as we walked around the area. Beautiful store fronts, and nooks and crannies around downtown. They all photographed beautifully and gave us lots of opportunities for capturing beautiful portraits of Crystal.

Here are a few tips for a successful portrait session.

Let’s start with the Do’s:

  1. Arrive Early

    • Aim to arrive 10-15 minutes early to allow for any last-minute adjustments and to allow yourself to settle in before the session begins. Being early will also help you feel more relaxed, setting the tone for a successful session.

  2. Communicate

    • Communicate with your photographer. If you’re running late, shoot me a text and let me know, but don’t stress if it happens. If you keep communication open it will allow us the opportunity to adjust and plan as needed so that we can both get the most out of our time.

  3. Plan Your Outfits

    • Planning your outfits ahead of time for any session is crucial. Give yourself the time to coordinate your clothing choices well in advance, and don’t forget about those shoes and accessories! And remember, if you need help, reach out and I can offer suggests and direct you into something that will work for your session.

  4. Details

    • All those little details will make an impact on your final images. Think about the little things such as neatly groomed nails, hair and clothing as wrinkle-free as possible (sometimes we can only do so much when it comes to those wrinkles). These small details can help boost your confidence and bring the whole session together when planned and coordinated with your outfits.

  5. Be Flexible

    • We can’t control what happens on session day, sometimes unexpected things happen. Especially living in Beautiful BC, our weather is unpredictable at the best of times, being flexible and going with the flow will help you stay relaxed.

And what about some of the Don’ts:

  1. Don’t Stress

    • The session is for you, if you stress before we even begin, it will show. Relax and enjoy yourself so that we can create some beautiful and magical portraits.

  2. Don’t be Critical

    • We are usually our own worst critics, but try your best to focus on the positives and let your beauty and personality shine.

  3. Don’t wait Until the Last Minute

    • Don’t procrastinate on planning your clothing, hair and makeup. Leaving these to the last minute before your session will bring out the stress and our first Don’t is to avoid stress. If you need help with planning outfits I’m here to assist you in coordinating what will work to create those beautiful portraits you are looking to have.

Now that you have the tools to have a successful portrait session, what are you waiting for? Let’s get you booked and create some magical portraits for you!
