Caribou Farm House | Kate & Brian | 100 Mile House Farm Sessions | Family Photographer, Cariboo Regional District
New month, new blog post!
Are you believing the temperatures we are having? Because I was not ready for the snow to melt so fast. But, that also means we can start planning spring and summer sessions now, who’s in?
I had the pleasure of capturing these beautiful moments for Kate and her family of Caribou Farm House. Kate runs the Gardener’s Atelier, with a flower shop and workshops for all sorts of beautiful floral arrangements that she teaches you how to make. If you live in the area and are interested in learning from her, check out her page to book a workshop spot.
Kate and Brian have a beautiful piece of property and two adorable little kiddos. We were even able to capture everyone in the frame for a few shots with the dog and cat too.
I like to do a pre session visit on a client’s property so that I can get a feel for how the light plays in the area and to get a soft introduction with my clients and any small children. Allowing small kiddos to meet me at least once before a session always seems to help with their shyness or hesitations when we do our session as they have already seen me once before. I met with Kate and was able to meet her little girl and boy while we walked around as she showed me their property. We had a lovely chat and I was so excited for their session and being able to capture the beauty of their home.
I know many people like to book their family photos at the most picturesque locations (which are amazing and I love those too), but here’s why you should think about capturing your family in your home or on your property.
Comfort
The biggest advantage to choosing to capture your family in your own home or your property is simple, it’s comfortable! It provides a high level of comfort for children, and husbands too. Being in your own space can help put your family at ease. This will lead to more natural and spontaneous expressions and interactions. The photos tend to be more genuine and emotive.
2. Convenience
You’re saving yourself the struggle of getting everyone ready and out the door, not to mention the drive to some field where small kids may or may not fall asleep during. At home sessions are convenient and a flexible alternative to outdoor sessions. And, the best convenience of all, if the weather is too cold or wet, you don’t have to reschedule, just move things inside the home if you were planning to stroll around your property.
3. Familiarity
Sessions at home also provide an opportunity to document significant life events within the context of a familiar environment. Family session or special occasions and celebrations, in-home photography allows for more personal and meaningful photos of your family’s milestones. The home becomes an integral part of the storytelling.
4. Intimacy
Another bonus of capturing your family at home, the ability to capture genuine moments in an everyday setting. It can be any moment from baking in the kitchen, or kids playing outside on the patio, or your family cuddling up on the couch, these authentic moments can be beautifully captured in the comfort of your own home.
5. Deeper Memories
Your home and property is part of who you are as a family, and having a strong emotional connection to your home is the superpower of an in home session. All the little elements of your home can add a unique and personal touch to your family portraits. This makes them even more meaningful and memorable.
Now, before I start blabbing on and on, let’s check out all the gorgeous moments I was able to capture for Kate and Brian as we wandered around their beautiful property!
